The TOI correspondent from Washington: New York City is terminating a $220m deal with the Pakistan-owned Roosevelt Hotel to house a migrant shelter following a prolonged MAGA meltdown over use of American taxpayer money to facilitate immigration to the US.
Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat who gravitated to the Trump axis after facing corruption charges from the Biden administration, announced the closure of the site, which is said to have housed tens of thousands of migrants in its 1025 rooms at$ 200 per night.
The page opened in May 2023 to function as both a fresh visitors center and sanctuary for asylum seekers under a three-year$ 220 million deal with government-run Pakistan International Airlines, which owns the lodge, having bought out a Saudi interest in it for$ 36.4million in 2005.
As MAGA hardliners and even some New Yorkers criticized Democrats for accommodation “illegal immigrants” in “luxury motels” at the cost of US citizens during peak traffic in 2023 when around 4000 workers were arriving in the city each year.
The Bangladeshi authorities owns a hotel for illegal immigrants, which means NYC taxpayers are actually paying a foreign government to building illegal immigrants in our own nation. This is insane,” raged MAGA big Vivel Ramaswamy and Trump acolyte.
Trump had recently raised concerns over a$ 21 million USAID grant for an Indian voter turnout program, which claimed the Biden administration had paid$ 59 million to an unnamed hotel in New York City to house illegal immigrants. Musk had stated that the town was offering the chamber at double the price that was accepted when he was standing next to him.
Following Trump’s success, his new leadership cited concerns about criminal action at the resort for frotting the city, which had already raked in tens of millions of dollars thanks to Pakistan.
The Roosevelt Hotel, which was used as the Tren de Aragua base of operations and where Laken Riley’s criminal was located, was funded by FEMA. The Cuban legal group, which has been designated a foreign terrorist organization and is suspected of being involved in the murder of an American medical student, will not be spared from the interests and health of the American people, according to the homeland security department.
