Dan Bongino was appointed as the FBI’s following deputy director on Sunday by President Donald Trump. Like clockwork, the press began attempting to discredit Bongino’s requirements by obfuscating his much law enforcement job. The media, however, only wants to undermine his reputation as FBI deputy director, not because they are genuinely concerned about his qualifications.
If you read the headline in The New York Times, you’d think Bongino is just a” Right-Wing Commentator” with no relevant experience. While Adam Goldman and Devlin Barrett dimly acknowledged Bongino’s history in law enforcement, they immediately reacted and suggested that his visit is a significant departure from previous FBI command. They argued that choosing someone without FBI experience “raises striking questions” about their ability to manage a sizable organization with extensive surveillance powers.
National Review’s James Lynch wrote,” Trump Taps Right-Wing Commentator Dan Bongino as Deputy FBI Director” and waited until the fourth paragraph to observe that Bongino’s job has largely been that of a law enforcement officer. Lynch peddled the pseudo outrage of the remaining that Bongino did, in Lynch’s terms,” dishonest the bureau’s democratic objective”.
The Washington Post’s Leo Sands headlined his piece with a question:” Who is Dan Bongino, right-wing firebrand tapped to be FBI deputy director”? In his opening paragraph, Sands claimed that Bongino is a “former Secret Service agent and police official turned right-wing press personality” whose visit “marks an abrupt change from those of the character’s predecessors, who were usually job FBI agents.”
But Bongino, apart from being a common critic, served as a New York City police officer from 1995 to 1999 before joining the Secret Service from 1999 to 2011, serving both former president George W. Bush and Barack Obama. According to Southern Arkansas University, Bogino “received a Department of Justice nomination for his numerous powerful investigations while assigned to a financial scam task-force.” Additionally, Bundino” joined the wealthy National Protective Division” in 2006 and “became one of the first permanent agents to get given duty for an administrative section of the political detail.”
However, this is not the first time the click has attempted to defame and devalue a Trump pick.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, an Army veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, was billed likewise as a” Fox News number” by left-wing hit when his candidacy was announced. In the only one mention of his services to this region, Trump was reportedly going to nominate Fox News host Pete Hegseth to be secretary of defense, according to a report from CBS News in November. ABC News ‘ Kelsey Walsh, Lalee Ibssa, Soo Rin Kim, and Ivan Pereira wrote,” Trump taps Fox News host Pete Hegseth to function as secretary of defense” and waited till the next article to observe Hegseth’s military occupation. Lolita C. Baldor and Tara Copp, both of whom work for The Associated Press, claimed Trump chose a” Fox News host” to be his defense secretary, tapping someone who was largely untested and untested on the global stage. …”
But the propaganda press wasn’t and isn’t concerned about Hegseth’s qualifications or Bongino’s. If the press were truly concerned about the qualifications of appointees and nominees, they’d have made a fuss when Pete Buttigieg, a small-city mayor, was tapped by former President Joe Biden to lead the Transportation Department.
Despite Buttigieg’s actual lack of experience, The New York Times ‘ Reid J. Epstein and Coral Davenport, for example, declared in glowing coverage that Buttigieg “would bring a younger voice to the cabinet and add to it its diversity as its first confirmed openly gay member”. The AP touted Buttigieg’s confirmation, emphasizing that Buttigieg was” the first openly gay person to be confirmed to a Cabinet post”.
Following the East Palestine train derailment, Buttigieg’s actual lack of experience was clearly visible, but hey, he’s gay!
The press’s coverage of Bongino’s appointment is nothing more than an attempt to portray any oversight of the FBI as illegitimate by limiting Bongino’s long career to his most recent position as a well-respected commentator and making out Bongino has no relevant experience.
The left fears that Bongino’s appointment signals a move toward genuine oversight of the corrupt FBI, especially given Bongino’s public questioning of the FBI’s trustworthiness. The press attempts to discredit Bongino’s law enforcement career by attempting to discredit any legitimate efforts Bongino makes to hold the organization accountable, which he has legitimately questioned.
