TAIPEI: The latest event, which is suspected of severing an underwater communications wires, is bringing up hostilities between Taipei and Beijing.
The beach guard’s affirmation stated that the island’s east coast and the neighboring Penghu Islands were where the Togolese-flagged cargo ship Hongtai was intercepted early on Tuesday in waters between Taiwan’s main island’s western coastline and the outlying Penghu Islands.
Chunghwa Telecom, a provider of communications, had earlier alerted the coast guard that one of its submarine cables had been severed 6 nautical miles ( 11 kilometers ) northwest of Jiangjun Fishing Harbor.
According to the beach guard, the Hongtai has been anchored there since Saturday night. Officials in the local Anping Port in Tainan had sent signals to the vehicle seven days from Saturday until earlier Tuesday, but they never received a reply. After the Chunghwa Telecom cord injury statement, the coast guard approached the fleet, which had begun to ship north, and escorted it to Anping Port.
Chinese government claimed that the ship’s eight-person team was made up entirely of Chinese citizens and that the investigation was being handled “in accordance with national security-level guidelines.”
” The cause of the underground cable tear, whether it was due to willful damage or simply an injury, is still pending further investigation for clarification”, the coast guard said.
It continued,” It is impossible to exclude the possibility that this might be a part of a Chinese invasion into the gray zone.”
According to the coast guard, Chunghwa Telecom properly activated a back cable, which prevented contacts on the Penghu Islands.
This is the most recent incident in a line of wires that Taipei has damaged while in some cases blaming China. A Chinese goods ship was alleged to have severed a website northeast of the area earlier this year.
In February 2023, two underwater wires serving Taiwan’s Matsu Islands were severed, disrupting contacts for months.
Taipei fears that as part of Beijing’s plan to blockade or capture the island, which it claims to own, China may damage its marine communications cables.
A representative from the Chinese foreign government stated during a typical press conference on Tuesday that he was unaware of the problem and that it was not diplomatic.
