Elon Musk is at it again. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has reignited his long-standing feud with OpenAI’s Sam Altman, taking a fresh jab by dubbing him ‘Scam Altman’ in yet another social media showdown.
Musk’s latest drill came in response to a resurfaced picture of Altman’s May 2023 evidence before the US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee. In the film, Altman asserts that OpenAI does not give him any collateral and that his work is solely driven by passion. ” I’m paid much for health insurance. I have no ownership in OpenAI”, he stated passionately, adding,” I’m doing this because I love it”.
Musk, previously the skeptical, wasn’t buying it. His sarcastic remark—delivered with his regular website flair—suggests he finds Altman’s kindness a little too good to be true.
The$ 97 billion plot twist
The Musk-Altman tech drama had already reached new heights recently when Musk, alongside a consortium of investors, attempted to buy OpenAI for a staggering$ 97 billion ( about £78.4 billion ). Altman, yet, wasn’t having any of it.
Instead of a dialogue, Altman responded with a mischievous counteroffer:” No congratulate you, but we will get Snapchat for 9.74 billion dollars if you want”. A not-so-subtle shot at Musk’s contentious$ 4 billion purchase of the software known as X.
OpenAI is not for selling.
At the AI Action Summit in Paris, Altman after reaffirmed his position, telling Sky News,” OpenA I is not for sale. OpenAI’s goal is not for price”. Speaking to Politico, he accused Musk of trying to “take command of OpenAI”, fanning the flames of their long-running conflict.
Musk’s return from OpenAI in 2018 sparked fears over its future, and the two software titans have a history of conflict. Since then, he’s constantly slammed Altman’s management and OpenAI’s proceed towards a more business model.
