Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, is scheduled to visit Washington on Friday to finalize a trade agreement with the United States, which could lead to increased American investment in Ukraine’s rare world minerals sector as part of a post contract.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, former President Donald Trump said,” I hear that he’s coming on Friday. Truly, it’s okay with me if he’d enjoy to. He would like to mark it along with me. He referred to the agreement as a “very great deal.”
A senior administration official, while cautioning that programs remain solvent, indicated that Zelenskyy’s attend was possible given the current political position. According to reports, the agreement includes granting the US major stakes in Ukraine’s key technology and defense industry, which is a crucial part of the world’s economy.
Trump has lately increased his grip on Zelenskyy, calling him a “dictator” and blaming Ukraine for the 2022 Russian-led battle. His administration immediately suggested that Ukraine pay US$ 500 billion in future earnings as de facto pardons for the defense and humanitarian support it has received. Despite declining that offer, Zellenskyy has been pursuing a customized agreement.
” We’re saying, look … we want to get that money back”, Trump said on Tuesday, again overstating the total US aid sent to Ukraine, which stands at approximately$ 120 billion since the war began. He falsely claimed that the US had given Ukraine$ 350 billion in aid and that it was financed by a product, which was widely refuted.
Some of Trump’s allies, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S. C. ), have suggested that US economic involvement in Ukraine’s mineral sector would serve as a form of security guarantee, as Washington would have a vested interest in protecting its investments. But, Trump has signaled that Europe, rather than the US, may be primarily responsible for Ukraine’s military security in the future.
