Amy Gleason, a low-profile executive with a background in health care technology and public service, has been appointed the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ) by the White House.
Gleason, 53, worked in the United States Digital Service ( now renamed the US DOGE Service ) from 2018 to 2021, assisting in the federal Covid-19 response. In January, after Donald Trump took office, she began working for the government.
Expand has been at the center of efforts to push federal agencies to reduce budgets, fireplace employees, and withdraw contracts—moves backed by businessman Elon Musk, who is serving as a senior adviser to Trump on government efficiency. Musk is certainly a DOGE worker, the White House has maintained.
Before her returning to authorities, Gleason worked as” general merchandise agent” at two Nashville-based health care companies, Russell Street Ventures and Main Street Health, both founded by former Trump administration official Brad Smith. She also runs a consulting company, Gleason Strategies.
Gleason has spoken out about the need for technological advancements in medical and has advocated for the study of the rare autoimmune condition that affects her child.
In a 2020 TED talk, Gleason expressed her frustration with the way the healthcare system treats these illnesses and advocated for data and technology improvements that might be beneficial for patients and physicians.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she served from 2014 to 2018 as the Cure JM Foundation’s vice chairman for study. Additionally, she co-founded and led the Florida-based healthcare business Care Sync.
More than 20 previous US Digital Service employees resigned in protest, accusing Musk of trying to “dismantle essential public service,” in a time of discussion.
