On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced that Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit the White House on Friday to mark a significant materials deal.
This comes after a gap between the US and Ukraine after President Trump called Zelenskyy a “dictator” and placed blame on Ukraine for the 2022 conflict that Russia started.
His administration immediately suggested that Ukraine pay US$ 500 billion in future earnings as de facto pardons for the defense and humanitarian assistance it has received. Zellenskyy turned down that present, but he has been pursuing further discussions to come to a modified agreement.
” We’re saying, look … we want to get that money back”, Trump said on Tuesday, again overstating the total US aid sent to Ukraine, which stands at approximately$ 120 billion since the war began. He fraudulently claimed that the US had provided$ 350 billion in support and that Ukraine’s aid was a product, which was widely refuted.
Some of Trump’s allies, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), have suggested that US economic role in Ukraine’s metal industry may serve as a form of protection ensure, as Washington may have a vested interest in protecting its investments. But, Trump has signaled that Europe, rather than the US, may be primarily responsible for Ukraine’s military security in the future.
Zelenskyy objected to the initial US offers, contending that they did not offer sufficient security guarantees for Ukraine and that the proposed$ 500 billion debt would be repaid by generations of Ukrainians. However, Kyiv is also interested in using the opportunities as a means of enticing the United States into Ukraine’s death.
According to the most recent version of the contract, the US” supports Ukraine’s efforts to obtain security guarantees necessary to establish lasting serenity,” but it does not specify any US determination to do so, according to AP news agency.
” Members will seek to identify any important steps to protect shared investments as defined in the… deal”, it says.
A White House official once made clear again on Wednesday that accepting the deal was a condition of Trump’s offer to meet with the Russian president on Friday. The standard discussed the offer by speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Zelenskyy predicted that” this deal may either be a great accomplishment or slowly fade.” And I think the success of our discussion with President Trump depends on it.
” I want to integrate with the US”, Zelenskyy said.
