According to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press, the President Donald Trump administration is reducing$ 60 billion in overall aid and cutting over 90 % of foreign aid contracts awarded by the US Agency for International Development ( USAID ) from its portfolio.
The decision comes after former president Donald Trump ordered a 90-day assessment of USAID and the State Department’s funding of global development and aid programs. The functions of USAID are significantly reduced by the cuts, leaving only a handful of projects that activists are now attempting to maintain through continuous legal wars.
The inner note and court papers submitted on Wednesday, which were the first to detail the cuts, The Washington Free Beacon reported on them. A court order that required officials to close a month-long suspension of foreign support funding by Wednesday’s end influenced the administration’s decision.
” In answer, State and USAID moved rapidly”, the letter stated, adding that the companies targeted” USAID and State Department international aid programs in great numbers for lease abortions”.
