ICE has not yet arrested children in school under Trump, education leaders say

Under President Donald Trump’s management, school city leaders and training associations have begun to worry about shielding students in K-12 colleges from “raids” targeting illegal immigrant students, but officials have yet to see a baby arrested at a school across the country.

Since the Trump administration started using schools as a place to make arrests, university towns in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Denver have reported large swathes of individuals staying home from school out of fear of being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials inside their rooms.

An NEA spokeswoman said that the National Education Association, which represents 3 million teachers, parents, students, and activists, promoted education right and encouraged school board to adopt” secure zone” plans.

No kids are arrested in schools

The NEA informed the Washington Examiner that it was unaware of any instances where ICE had pulled a student from school despite an extensive effort by worried parents and teachers to secure schools.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals ‘ representative confirmed the findings made by the NEA.

I haven’t heard of any instances of this incident from our associate principals, according to NAESP spokesperson Kaylen Tucker in an email on Thursday. &nbsp,

The Los Angeles Unified School District, the second-largest area in the country, claimed in a declaration that there hasn’t been any ICE action on our schools.

The District has developed procedures for responding to requests for information from emigration personnel regarding students, families, and staff, and it has trained staff to reply when federal immigration officers show up at or near schools, according to an LAUSD spokesperson in an email.

What gave rise to the doubts?

A Biden-era legislation that forbade federal immigration officials from entering” sensitive” locations, including temples, hospitals, and institutions, was repealed on Trump’s first day in office.

The walk was criticized by the National Immigration Law Center as an “attack on the wellbeing of immigration neighborhoods.”

The deferral is particularly harmful in its attempt to make immigrants feel uncomfortable even in places that are at the heart of a civil society, according to NILC in a speech.

How universities have responded to Trump

Numerous cities’ schools make the decision to have their own” sanctuary” policies in place. A sanctuary area is a spot where elected officials have chosen not to cooperate with ICE, including by releasing criminals who are imprisoned from their homes to national authorities.

After those folks are released, ICE has enter areas, find them, and make arrests.

The NEA suggested that school districts put policies in place to serve as” sanctuaries” or” safe have ns” for immigrant students. It claimed that thousands of school districts have adhered to its advice.

The organization stated in a statement on its website that” NEA strongly encourages universities and school districts to choose a Safe Zones plan that outlines what teachers and staff members should do if ICE attempts to engage in immigration enforcement at institutions.”

The school board in Richmond, Virginia, unanimously declared the city’s schools a” safe zone” in February. This requires that school employees and ICE adhere to the club’s new interaction policy, which aims to stifle ICE’s access to students.

ICE and civil right in schools

Some colleges have constructed personal areas within their houses that, according to the NILC, are protected as places where people have a “reasonable expectation of privacy” under the Fifth Amendment.

ICE may provide schools, but they would have a court order to enter those designated areas.

Although the above mentioned institutions are aware of it, that may change quickly.

A contract school in south Chicago just this year made families aware that a federal immigration officer was detained while dropping off children.

What might appear in the wake of a recent creation is the bigger issue, though.

More than 500, 000 alone children who had been ordered deported by a judge but have not left had been detained by the Trump presidency, according to Reuters.

If that order is followed, ICE could be in classrooms.

A request for comment was never received by ICE.
