As President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy squared off in front of the Oval Office on Friday, social media users had a blast watching Secretary of State Marco Rubio‘s unpleasant appearance.
One X person wrote,” If Marco Rubio wants to keep what’s left of his heart and his honor, he’d resign immediately,” and another wrote,” Marco Rubio regrets taking the job.”
Rubio’s quiet pain became image gold as video of the heated trade between Trump and Zelenskyy became popular online. The original Florida senator was rudely checked in on him by Slate’s politics writer Jim Newell, who immediately sparked a storm of memes that depicted him as stranded in a job he desperately wants to quit.
From” coward” to” severance meme material”
Jon Favreau, a host of Pod Save America, compared Rubio’s situation to the terrible psychological break between work and personal life in the Apple TV + series Severance. A. J. Catoline, the director of Emmy-winning Ted Lasso, went further and urged Rubio to “go bite Putin’s shoe” while sharing his own Compensation image.
Some consumers took a more serious voice, pointing out how Rubio’s terrible tone reflected his internal turmoil. Marco Rubio appears to be completely disgusted. He is well aware that Zelenskyy is the one we should be fighting for, but he sold his soul to MAGA, according to a customer on X. You could actually see Marco Rubio swimming in the pain of knowing he gave up a long-term Senate work just to receive none of the prestige and responsibility for letting children and Ukraine die, according to another.
Rubio bites his lips, but he still lauds Trump.
After the conference, Rubio played the faithful man despite what appeared to be his distress. He made an attempt to flip the chaotic situation as a gain for Trump in a blog on X.
” Thank you @POTUS for standing up for America in a way that no President has ever had the confidence to do so.” I appreciate you putting America second. America is with you, he wrote.
Whether America or perhaps Rubio himself agrees with that is another story.
