Leader of a pro-Israel organization calls the claim “deeply disturbing.”
According to recently obtained documents, a University of Illinois-Chicago teacher allegedly accused a stare of “playing the target” by declining to give information to Israeli students in a post-election source guide.
The school repair got 11 biased reports from the university that included those that covered the weeks leading up to the election and President Donald Trump’s commencement.
A doctor at the school of liberal arts and sciences provided a slip with post-election sources to share with students following the election.
An unnamed professor wrote,” I suggested adding a link to the Chicago Metro area Hillel, and included the explanation that some Jewish students no longer feel at student aid facilities because they have anti-Israel comments on their website sites.” Somebody said they were fed up with me “playing the sufferer.” Because doing so would cause division, REDACTED advised me to avoid criticizing the historical locations.
The doctor wrote,” The talk was so terrible that I couldn’t enter my department and sat in my car for an afternoon between arriving and going to class.” If a faculty member had suggested a website on a slip to make sure there was a group of students being supported were any other minority group than Jews, I do not think that would have led to such hostile, yet bullying responses.
When asked by The Fix, the school of liberal arts and sciences had nothing more to put about the situation. According to spokesman Jonathan Cecero,” Dean] Lisa] Freeman was not present for the discussion and, therefore, has no additional information besides what was provided in the report,” he told The Fix via email.
The Fix also spoke with associate vice president for school communications, Sherri McGinnis-Gonzalez, over the phone on February 20 and emailed the university’s media relations group on February 12.
McGinnis-Gonzalez requested that she receive an email with more details and certain issues. In the last two months, she has never responded more.
However, the head of an anti-Israel advocacy group, which is not affiliated with any political parties, criticized “antisemitic partiality” on college campuses, claiming the team has witnessed it before.
StandWithUs CEO Roz Rothstein told The Fix via a media speech,” It is deeply disturbing to discover that a faculty member’s simple request to contain Hillel as a tool was met with hostility.
In the fall semester, there were at least one student aid centre that organized several pro-Palestinian activities.
For instance, the Arab-American Cultural Center promoted events like the October 8th” Illness Justice in Practice: Responding to Palestine” event.
The website posted an ad for a screen of a video about Israel unleashing “wrath on Lebanon for 34 days” and an occasion “holding space” for Muslim students during “difficult times in Palestine, Lebanon, Sunday, Yemen, and the rest of the Egyptian World” in September and October of 2024.
The “holding space for our Arab students at the ArabAmCC” on September 30 was intended to assist in “processing the emotions of these current events” in Middle Eastern countries like those in “back home ] Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, etc. ] [ ] are facing movement, malnutrition, death, and violence.
When asked how colleges can make sure that Jewish students can access resources alongside other kids, Rothstein of StandWithUs responded,” If a school is providing aid resources for students, it must assure that Jewish students have equal access without worry of rejection or partiality.”
According to Rothstein,” Schools have a legal and moral obligation under Title VI to uphold these standards, and they must take that responsibility seriously.”
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 forbids discrimination based on race. Additionally, it forbids discrimination based on religion.
Anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim reports were included in the obtained bias reports.
An October 31 complaint about a” Swastika and the death to Jews” written]i ] nside stall at the all-gender bathroom was one of the other complaints that were included in the obtained bias reports.
A Star of David cross-out,” a swastika,”” Die Jew,” and” Fuck Jews” were all alleged words in a complaint from November 4, 2024, according to a complaint from November 4, 2024.
A non-Muslim girl wearing a hijab and mocking the culture was criticized a few weeks later. According to the complaint, the Muslim student wanted her peer to be placed on probation or have her peer ejected.
