Democrats attempted to renew their opposition to his administration by giving a aggressive joint address to Congress on Tuesday night.
Trump’s address to Congress, at roughly 99 days, broke the record for the longest political address, achieving former President Bill Clinton‘s history of 89 moments in 2000.
Republican DISCLAIMS” AMERICA IS BACK” IN PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS RIFE WITH DEMOCRATIC PROTESTS.
” And to my own people, America is back”, Trump declared earlier in his discourse, leading joyous Republicans to constantly song” USA”!
Trump described his second month in office as “it has been nothing but swift and unyielding action to usher in the greatest and most effective era in the history of our land.” ” We have accomplished more in 43 days than most governments accomplished in four years or eight decades, and we are just getting started”.
Trump repeatedly criticized Democrats, criticizing the Biden administration’s inquiries into him and their windy reply to his second term.
In turn, Democrats found several ways to protest his speech, including repeated interruptions by Rep. Al Green (D-TX ) that led to his removal from the chamber.
What are the key insights from the Capitol’s Tuesday evening address?
1. Trump boasts about his immigration history.
The president quickly touted his efforts to curb illegal emigration after he was sworn into office, including an order declaring a national crisis at the southern border.
He cited the lowest registered number of immigrants who were denied entrance at the southern and northern border in February.
” And I deployed the U. S. military and Border Patrol to repel the invasion of our country”, Trump said. And what a work they’ve done as a result: Last month’s illegal border crossings were by far the lowest previously recorded.
He then took a chance at his counterpart’s management of the southern border. Before imposing a document influx of migrants toward the end of his term, President Joe Biden oversaw a record flood.
” In contrast, under Joe Biden, the worst president in American history, there were hundreds of thousands of illegal bridges a month”, Trump said as Republicans cheered.
Trump gushed that his administration was more powerful than legislation as a result of the striking crackdown on illegal immigration.
” The media and our friends in the Democrat Party kept saying we needed fresh legislation, we must own policy to secure the borders, but it turned out that all we really needed was a novel leader”, he said.
Republicans roared in assent.
2. Democrats object to Trump’s statement.
Liberals protesting Trump’s statement held signs with slogans including” Save Medicaid”,
” Musk Steals,” and” Protect Veterans.”
But it was Green’s repeated problems that kicked off the controversial statement.
After the senator stood up and began yelling at Trump,” You don’t have a mandate,” Green was drowned out by Republicans who chanted” USA.”
AL GREEN REMOVED FROM HOUSE CHAMBER AFTER PROTESTING TRUMP ADDRESS
Members are urged to maintain the decorum in the house and to end any further disruptions, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ).
Johnson later ordered the commander of hands to remove Green from the combined address.
After leaving the room, Green after said to writers,” It’s worth it to let people realize that there are some people who are going to stand up to Trump.”
Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) carried a sign that read” This is not normal” as Trump walked in, causing another stir as Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX ) ripped the paper out of her hands.
During Trump’s speech, the Democrat side of the chamber hardly clapped, and only a few Democrats sat in clapping lines. In one exception, some Liberals did cry when Trump called for a battle on the drug cartels.
As Trump was continuing to speak, two progressive Democrats, Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX ) and Maxwell Frost (D-FL ), stormed the chamber. As they left, they took off their coats to show” Resist” and” No princes live around” written on the flanks of their T-shirts.
Liberals who were mostly unopposed to Trump’s statement were chastised by the president.
” I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I may say to make them happy, or to make them have or smile or praise — everything I can perform”, Trump said.
However, there were times when the president invited a few people to the gallery, including Laken Riley’s family, a metal plant employer, a potential teacher, and a target of “deepfake” systems.
Sen.  , Elissa Slotkin , (D-MI ) gave the Democratic response to Trump’s speech, and Rep.  , Lateefah Simon (D-CA ) gave the Working Families Party response.
3. Trump maintains taxes
Trump defended a fresh round of taxes and signaled that more were coming as the world’s stock markets plunged for the next moment in response to the trade war. His 25 % tariffs against Canada and Mexico, as well as an additional 10 % tariff against China, went into effect ahead of his speech on Tuesday.
” April 2: Mutual taxes start, and whatever they charge us will be charged by other nations, we may charge them.” That’s bilateral again and forth”, Trump said. We did tax them whatever they may be, they say.
” If , they do non-monetary taxes to keep us out of their business, then we will complete non-monetary obstacles to keep them out of , our , business”, he continued. We will invest trillions of dollars in new jobs, creating them like they have not before.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced hostile 25 % tariffs against the U. S. on Tuesday, and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is expected to announce tariffs on Sunday.
In response to Trump’s actions, China blacklisted more than 20 U.S. businesses and imposed a 15 % tax on U.S. farm goods.
The president went so far as to say that” a new business plan will also be great for the American producer. The producer is my favorite. But prices may come up for consumers if taxes remain in effect.
” Taxes are about making America great again and rich again,” the saying goes. And it’s happening, and it will happen quite fast. We’re okay with that, Trump said, but there will be some interruption. ” It won’t be much”.
4. Trump says Zelensky wants harmony
Trump made the announcement that Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, had written him a email informing him of his desire for peace during his speech.
Zelensky left the White House next year without signing a diplomatic metal offer after a blowup in the Oval Office that dimmed the chances of a peace deal with Russia. Since that meeting, the Russian president has made an effort to repair the damage done.
” The text reads, Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to provide lasting peace closer. No one wants serenity more than the Ukrainians, according to Trump.
” My staff and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong authority to get a peace that lasts”, the president continued, reading the contents of the letter at length before the joint session of Congress. We truly value how far America has contributed to the preservation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. Regarding the deal on metals and surveillance, Ukraine is ready to mark it at any time that is convenient for you”.
Trump continued,” I appreciate that he sent this notice.”
The senator also said he remains committed to ending the three-year issue.
” Thousands of Ukrainians and Russians have been unduly killed or wounded in this tragic and terrible fight with no end in sight,” Trump said.” I’m also working hard to put an end to the violent conflict in Ukraine.” ” The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to aid Ukraine’s defence with no security”.
The president criticized Western allies once more for the level of financial aid they offered during the conflict.
” However, Europe has unfortunately spent more money buying Russian oil and gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine by far, think of that”, Trump said.
5. Elon Musk gets Trump shoutout
On Tuesday evening, Trump praised it businessman Elon Musk for his efforts to reduce the federal labor and state paying through the Department of Government Performance. Musk’s deeds have created bloating for moderate Republicans facing backlash at town rooms in their regions.
Trump said,” This is a time for great goals and strong activity.” ” Upon taking office, I imposed an immediate freeze on all federal getting, a freeze on all new federal rules and a freeze on all foreign support”.
” To accomplish this, I’ve created the brand-new Department of Government Performance.” DOGE, maybe you’ve heard of it, which is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery now”, said Trump. ” Thank you, Elon,” He’s working very hard. He lacked the necessary have.
Musk, one of Trump’s most prominent top experts, received several standing ovations from Republicans as Democrats held up evidence that said “false”.
Trump’s remarks were noteworthy in part because his administration claimed Musk is not in command of DOGE. White House , hit secretary , Karoline Leavitt , later named Amy Gleason as the executive of DOGE after repeated doubting.
National Republican Congressional Committee  Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC ) cautioned members earlier on Tuesday against holding in-person town halls moving forward.
6. Trump attributes Biden’s blame for the increase in chicken prices to Trump.
Trump’s several attacks on Biden brought loud groans from Democrats during the conversation. He once attributed the former president to a rise in chicken charges brought on by the spread of the aquatic virus.
” Joe Biden specifically allow the price of eggs get out of control. Trump’s comments about rising chicken prices caused Democrats to cry in protest. ” And we’re working hard to get it back down”.
Secretary, do a great work on that; you left a total disaster behind from the previous management, he continued, presumably referring to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.
Trump’s election victory next November was aided by voters upset about higher costs. Democrats have since attempted to blame Trump for his persistent prices by using egg prices as a metric.
” A main focus of our battle to fight inflation is quickly reducing the cost of power”, Trump said.
7. Trump honours specific customers
Trump emphasized the family of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, Alexis Nungaray, whose suspected murders are two illegal immigrants, in a time of his discourse.
” The demise of this wonderful 12-year-old woman and the horror of her mother and family touched our whole society greatly”, Trump said. First lady Melania Trump invited Alexis Nungaray.
He announced a new administrative get naming a Texas wildlife protection in honor of Jocelyn.
You will find a wonderful refuge, a picturesque quiet 34, 000 hectares for all of God’s animals on the top of the Gulf of America from where Jocelyn lived in Houston. Alexis, moments ago I formally renamed that refuge in loving memory of your beautiful daughter Jocelyn” , , Trump said.
D. J. Daniels, a 13-year-old boy with a rare brain cancer, was also honored by the president.
” D. J. has been sworn in as an honorary law enforcement officer, actually a number of times”, said Trump. The police adore him. The police departments love him. And D. J., we’re going to do you the biggest honor of all tonight. I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service”.
As his father lifted him up to the crowd, Daniels was clearly surprised by the gesture.
Trump also surprised Jason Hartley — a high school senior who lost his father, an LA County sheriff’s deputy — by informing him of his acceptance to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
” Jason, that’s a very big deal getting in — that’s a difficult one to get into, but I’m pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted. You will soon be joining the Corp of Cadets”, said Trump.
