After colliding with a police car after President Donald Trump delivered a speech to Congress, Chief of Staff of the US House was detained on Tuesday evening for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Hayden Haynes was detained on suspicion of driving while under the influence, and he was afterward released. Driving while intoxicated might indicate both alcohol and drugs.
President Trump made his first appearance before a joint session of Congress since taking office, and Mr. Johnson was seated in his place soon after.
US Capitol Police claimed in a statement that Haynes “backed into a parked car” just before nightfall. According to the speech, soldiers arrived at the scene and detained the vehicle.
Johnson told reporters that he has known Haynes for more than ten years, describing him as” trusted and respected” and expressing his “full faith and confidence” in his command.
Johnson’s office stated in a statement that the speaker was aware of the incident that occurred last night between his Chief of Staff and the Capitol Police and that Haynes has a “esteemed standing among Members and employees alike.”
Since the Louisiana Republican took over the position in 2023, Haynes, a long-time ally of Johnson, has been in charge of the author’s top of workers.
