The Canada-US business conflict is here to stay, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned on Thursday, declaring that even with exemptions for specific sectors, the financial standoff between the two neighbors did past” for the immediate future”. His remarks came after what he described as a” beautiful but creative” dialogue with US President Donald Trump earlier this year.
” Our goal remains to get these levies, all taxes, removed”, Trudeau said, a day after a tense phone call with Trump. The prime minister didn’t hold back, calling the trade conflict “dumb” and “unjustified”, yet as he acknowledged that debate with Washington were continued.

Tensions surged Tuesday when Trump launched a new business rude, imposing 25 % levies on imports from Canada and Mexico, while American energy exports were hit with a 10 % charge. The move, which sent financial markets into tumult, prompted fast retaliation from US trading partners.
The White House attempted injury power on Wednesday, offering a one-month provision for US manufacturers. Trump, in conversations with the CEOs of Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, urged them to move production to the US to leave the tariffs—further fueling hostilities with Canada.
Despite the political back-and-forth, Trudeau made it clear that Ottawa” will not be backing down” until the US removes its obligations on French goods. But with Trump doubling down and Trudeau refusing to smile, this business battle is far from over—and both markets are bracing for effect.
