Trump not sold on push to change daylight saving time: ’50-50 issue’

President Donald Trump is hardly confident of changing the current daylight saving time program, calling it a “50-50 problem” even as the changes has been floated by one of his best experts.

On Sunday night, the land, with the exceptions of Arizona and Hawaii, will shift from regular day to daylight saving time as part of the yearly period adjustment. The changeover usually renews the discussion on whether regular time should keep lasting rather than changing the time half a year.

Elon Musk, the de facto head of the Department of Government Performance work in the White House, has recently expressed a desire to dismantle the “annoying” shift. Trump has even called for an end to daylight spending time in the past. When asked about getting rid of daylight saving time in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump changed his tone, noting that there is no obvious discussion.

POTUS on Daylight Savings:” It’s a 50/50 issue and if something is a 50/50 problem, it’s hard to get excited about it. ” This should be the easiest one of all, but it’s a 50-50 problem, and if something’s a 50-50 problem, it’s hard to get excited about it,” Trump said”. I assume people would like to have more mild eventually, but some people want to have more light earlier because they don’t want to get their kids to school in the dark.

” And it’s very significant — it’s a little bit one approach— but it’s very little a 50-50 problem. It’s something I may do, but a lot of people like it one way, a lot of people like it the other manner. It’s pretty even. And often, I find when that’s the case, what else do we have to accomplish”?

Politicians have attempted to change the fluid through legislation. In 2022, then-Sen. Marco Rubio’s effort to make daylight saving time continuous passed in the Senate, but the House of Representatives did not vote on his expenses, and it died before getting to the government’s office.

While most politicians proposed making daylight saving time continuous, Trump’s request in a December 2024 Truth Social post do make regular time permanent.
