Tech billionaire and Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ) head Elon Musk on Monday claimed that X was hit by a “massive cyberattack” originating from the “Ukraine area”. The harm caused service problems and raised fears about security risks.
” We’re never sure exactly what happened, but there was a huge computer harm to take down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area”, Musk said during his conversation with Larry Kudlow on Fox News.
When Kudlow asked about the system’s present position, Musk just responded,” It’s away”.
Musk’s note came after thousands of users reported problems with X earlier Monday morning. The system experienced many interruptions throughout the day, going lower, coming again up, and then crashing again.
Earlier, addressing the disruption, Musk posted on X:” There was ( still is ) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of sources. Either a big, organized team and/or a nation is involved. Tracing”.
He further responded to Doge Designer’s article which stated,” First, rallies against DOGE. Finally, Tesla shops were attacked. Then, X is over. I doesn’t rule out the possibility that this interruption is the result of an assault on X”.
According to the Associated Press, reports of disruptions surged earlier Monday, peaking at 6 am and again at 10 am Eastern, with over 40, 000 people experiencing entry problems, according to tracking page Downdetector.com. By the evening, studies had declined to the small thousands.
A persistent failure lasting at least an afternoon began at lunchtime, with the most serious problems concentrated along the US shores. Downdetector.com noted that 56 % of the reported issues were related to the X app, while 33 % affected the website.
