A heated change erupted between White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and an Associated Press writer on Tuesday over US senator Donald Trump‘s tax laws.
AP’s Josh Boak started his problem by noting that Trump had earlier pushed for tax breaks but was now focusing on taxes, which he described as a form of revenue hike. Before he could accomplish, Lake cut in, saying, Trump is” not doing that”.
” When President Trump last addressed the VR team when he was on the campaign trail, his huge push was on duty breaks. He’s going it now as he’s proposing tax excursions in the form of taxes—” Boak had said. ” I’m wondering why he’s prioritising that over the tax breaks”, he continued after Leavitt’s rejection.
” He’s basically not implementing income hikes. Taxes are a tax hike on foreign states that have been ripping us off. Taxes are a tax slice for the American people”, she answered, emphasising Trump’s devotion to tax breaks on tips, work, and Social Security benefits.
Boak fired again, saying,” I’m guilty, have you ever paid a price? Because I have. They don’t getting charged on overseas companies. They get charged on the manufacturers”.
Lake defended Trump’s stance, arguing that good deal would ultimately benefit National staff by increasing income and keeping profits within the state.
” And finally, when we have good and sensible trade, which the British people have not seen in decades, as I said at the beginning, revenues may keep here, wages will go away, and our country may be made affluent again”, she said.
Frustrated with the line of questioning, Leavitt said she regretted giving AP a question, calling Boak’s approach “insulting” and suggesting he was testing her knowledge of economics. ” And I think it’s insulting you’re trying to test my knowledge of economics and the decisions this president has made”.
The clash is part of a broader pattern of friction between the Trump administration and the AP. In February, Trump revoked the AP’s access to the Oval Office and Air Force One after the news agency refused to call the Gulf of Mexico the” Gulf of America”.
