LONDON: The commander of a cargo ship that collided with a US ship is a Russian federal who remains in English officers prison, the ship’s owner said Wednesday.
The 59-year-old gentleman, who hasn’t been named by authorities, was arrested by authorities in north England Tuesday on suspicion of murder by total neglect over the incident. He hasn’t been charged.
Shipping business Ernst Russ, which owns the Portugal-flagged goods vehicle Solong, said that the ship’s 14 staff were a mix of Russian and Filipino citizens.
The goods ship collided Monday with a ship carrying flight energy for the US government in the North Sea off northeast England on Monday, setting both warships ablaze. One soldier from the Solong was presumed dying in the incident, which sparked worries of significant economic damage.
British officials say they don’t think bad play.
