A new report shows that just seven countries met the World Health Organization weather quality standard in 2024. India accounted for 13 out of the best 20 poisoned locations across the globe.
Most of the global population is breathing dirty air, with only 17 % of cities meeting air pollution norms, a report has found.
The findings were published by Switzerland-based air quality monitoring collection IQAir on Tuesday as part of its World Air Quality Report for 2024.
Chad, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Congo and India were among the five most polluted countries in the world.
However, only seven states — Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Estonia, Grenada, Iceland, and New Zealand — met the monthly average PM2.5 guide established by the World Health Organization.
The company’s research is based on information collected from 40, 000 air quality monitoring facilities in 138 countries.
American cities among the worst affected
India accounted for 13 out of the top 20 poisoned locations across the globe, according to the document.
Byrnihat, a little business town situated in the government’s north, was the most polluted urban area in the world.
Delhi continued to remain the most polluted investment capital worldwide.
Scarce checking in Africa
The statement said that several parts of the world were never equipped with the tracking required for more detailed information, indicating that the actual amount of air pollution could be much more.
For example, it highlighted that in Africa there was only one monitoring station for every 3.7 million individuals.
” There has been significant progress in expanding air quality monitoring across several countries, regions, and lands over the past 12 weeks. However, significant gaps still exist in government-operated governmental systems in some parts of the world”, the statement said.
However, Oceania was listed as the cleanest place on the planet, with 57 % of the places meeting the air quality rules.
