Vice President J. D. Vance welcomed Taoiseach Micheál Martin of Ireland to a St. Patrick’s Day meal at the Vice President’s house at the U. S. Naval Observatory on Wednesday, showcasing his” shoe diplomacy”.

” Before I introduce the Taoiseach, I just want to suggest that one of the things we try to do with this meal is remind people of the strong bonds of friendship between the United States and Ireland”, Vance said.

” I think it’s a great opportunity for that, and it’s also a chance for Usha to wearing her green trousers”, Vance joked, causing the audience to grin as he glanced at Second Lady Usha Vance’s clothing. ” She’s had them in the bedroom for years”!

Vance next shared that during his day as a lawmaker, he learned about the concept of” shoe diplomacy” and the importance of gifting boots to his fellow senators.

” I give Massachusetts boots to my companions from Massachusetts and boots from Utah to my companions in Utah”, he explained.

Leaning over from the pulpit, the vice president triumphantly displayed his clover socks to the masses, prompting applause.

He added, with a smiles, that President Donald Trump was a “big admirer of liberal dress”, casually asking the market to support him if the leader noticed the socks.

” This is an essential part of cementing the Irish-American connection, and that’s the only reason I’m wearing these tights”, Vance said.

Eventually, during a conference in the Oval Office with the Taoiseach, President Trump comically commented on Vance’s boots.

” I love these boots. What’s with these boots”? Trump quipped, pointing at Vance’s legs.

” I’m trying to stay focused, but VP’s socks …” Trump added as those in the room laughed.

The conference with Ireland’s Taoiseach may contain important business conversations in the lead-up to the monthly St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 17.

On Wednesday, the European Union announced plans to impose$ 28 billion in counter-tariffs on U. S. goods in April.

While seated with Ireland’s leading in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that the European Union” treats us very hard” and stated, “whatever they charge us with, we’re charging them”.

” Look, the EU was set up to take advantage of the United States”, he added.

When asked by a writer if Ireland was taking benefits, Trump responded,” Of course they are. Of course they are”.
