Robert Morris, who established a significant spiritual organization in Texas and recently advised the Trump administration on trust issues, faced child sexual abuse claims on Wednesday, according to Oklahoma’s attorney general’s office.
Morris, aged 63, stepped down from his position as top priest of the Dallas-based Gateway Church next summer, following Cindy Clemishire public complaints of mistreatment during the 1980s, when she was a kid.
A grand jury issued five criminal charges against Morris for inappropriate works towards a baby, determining that he had badly touched the defendant’s romantic areas between the ages of 12 and 14. The legal papers identify the target only by the letters C. C.
The victim, now 55 and residing in Oklahoma, disclosed to The Dallas Morning News that the abuse commenced when her household offered hospitality to Morris, then a flying priest, at their Oklahoma house on Christmas Day in 1982. She explained that it took centuries before she recognised the situations as criminal abuse.
She said on Wednesday,” After practically 43 years, the legislation has finally caught up with Robert Morris for the brutal crimes he committed against me”. She continued,” My family and I are greatly pleased to the government who have worked hard to make this time possible and remain enthusiastic that justice may eventually prevail”.
However, Morris acknowledged to The Christian Post last year that he had engaged in “inappropriate sexual behavior with a fresh girl”. His religion, Gateway Church, founded in 2000, reported over 100, 000 participants, making it amongst America’s largest communities.
Gateway Church elder Tra Willbanks had addressed the allegations in November, stating,” What happened to Cindy Clemishire was heartbreaking and horrible, and we denounce physical abuse in all of its types”. He praised Clemishire’s courage, noting that” she has impacted many life”.
During Trump’s first presidential name, Morris served on a belief advisory committee and hosted Trump at Gateway Church in June 2020. A Trump spokeswoman confirmed that Morris had no role in the 2024 presidential campaign.
