Demyan Ganul, a well-known advocate from Ukraine, was shot and killed on Thursday in northern Odessa. An unnamed assailant, apparently dressed in military uniform, fired two bullets at Ganul before fleeing the scene on Aleksandrovsky Prospekt. But, Igor Klimenko, the interior minister, refuted reports that the suspect was sporting a defense garb.
Ganul, a contentious number in Ukraine, is credited with leading the right-wing extreme organization” Street Front” and having previously worked for the” Right Sector.” He gained notoriety for his part in the May 2, 2014, conflicts in Odessa, during which the state’s House of Trade Unions was set on fire, causing the incidents of 48 people and injuring more than 120 people.
In recent years, Ganul had been instrumental in promoting decommunization plans and enforcing Ukraine’s recruitment efforts. He made articles in June 2024 when he actually assaulted a Ukrainian military officer after criticizing the military.
A special investigative team from the National Police’s main business has been dispatched to Odessa following Klimenko’s arrest for the inspection. To find the suspect, whose identity is being verified, law enforcement has launched an activity under the name” Siren.”
Ganul claimed he had received death threats and that his head had a$ 10,000 bounty. Authorities are now looking into possible reasons behind the attack and working to find the perpetrator.
