As he arrived for a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra at a Thursday music at the Kennedy Center, US Vice President JD Vance was booed by the visitors.
Vance and his family Usha took their seats, immediately drowning out the festival’s pre-concert announcements, as the jeering started. You ruined this spot, you ruined it, said Vance, storm and smile!
Due to the market being subject to Secret Service checks upon entry, the band’s start had been delayed by 25 minutes due to his visit’s increased security.
The swift response comes as Trump’s subsequent control of the Kennedy Center sparks growing controversy. Trump appointed himself head and Richard Grenell as interval producer after dismissing the university’s chairman and 13 directors in February. The panel also included Usha Vance. Trump defended his choice by saying,” We didn’t like what they were showing… This nation is no longer awoken.
The modifications have sparked opposition. The makers of Hamilton canceled a 2026 work at the Kennedy Center, and other musicians have even withdrawn. A party playing at the Millennium Stage exhibited flags that read,” Reinstate gay software,” and” Creativity at the Kennedy Center must not be suppressed.”
Trump’s wider impact on Kennedy Center development decisions has also been felt. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC’s scheduled achievement that was scheduled for February’s Pride events was canceled by the organization.
