Millions of people were left in the dark after Havana and the country’s counties experienced a severe power outage on Friday night.
A power failure at the Diezmero station on the outskirts of Havana, according to Cuba’s department of energy and mines, had resulted in” a significant reduction of generation in northern Cuba and the failing of the National Electric System.”
The government stated on its X social media account that it is “working on the healing process.”
Havana’s roads were dim and bare, with only the windows of the hotels with generating supplying the light. Internet access was hampered.
People reported experiencing disruptions that lasted for as long as Guantanamo, Artemisa, Santiago de Cuba, and Santa Clara, as well as other regions.
The state agency that controls the field, the Electric Union, previously stated in its normal statement that peak-hour need would be around 3, 250 megawatts and the gap would reach around 1, 380 megawatts, which would mean that 42 % of the nation’s electricity system would be shut down. This is not the most current high in history.
Cuba’s national energy system experienced numerous power outages at the end of next month, leaving the island in the dark amid a troubling financial problems.
More than half of Cuba’s energy grid is experiencing energy reduces during peak hours, which has been a source of concern for the country’s energy grid. Gas shortages and aging infrastructure are the main causes of the disruptions. Energy is necessary for cooking and pumping in some areas of the island.
Specialists on the island have begun a plan to deploy renewable parks and have promised that dozens of them will be operational this season. In 2021, 2022, and 2024, anti-government marches were formerly a result of disruptions.
