According to local reports, officials have discovered Sudiksha Konanki, a student who went missing from the University of Pittsburgh, wearing clothes that they believe is her on a lounge seat at the Dominican Republic shore where she suddenly vanished over the course of a year.
A pair of sand-covered grey flip-flops second to a beach chair are seen in photos taken by CDN. Konanki, 20, was last seen wearing in surveillance images from the day of her departure, and the beachwear strongly resembles that. The garments appeared untouched, according to the investigators.
Mysterious disappearance and last known moments
Konanki, a Virginia native of India, was discovered missing on March 6 at about 4 p.m. by companions who had taken her for a spring break trip to the RIU Hotel &, Resort in Punta Cana.
At 4.15 am on the day of Konanki’s disappearance, surveillance footage shows her with older St Cloud State University top Joshua Riibe, 22, as they walk near the beach. At one level, Konanki’s other associates were seen holding hands as they were standing near.
According to local media reports, the majority of the party finally left Konanki and Riibe on the beach. Authorities say a power outage at the beach, which prevented security cameras, made them stay by the ocean.
According to a record obtained by the Dominican Republic’s Noticias Sin, Riibe later claimed to have saved Konanki from troubled waters but lost vision of her before leaving. But, Riibe is accused of providing contradictory accounts of the night’s activities.
Riibe named the subject’s person of interest
Riibe has been named a person of interest in the case and the Dominican authorities have immediately suspected drowning. He is never a suspect, but as the research progresses, he is still being watched 24 hours.
According to a statement released by WTAE, Riibe’s parents claim that he has been detained under unusual circumstances and that he has been interrogated without an official speaker or constitutional lawyers until March 12. Despite this, they have urged the event to be treated fairly and transparent.
Riibe has also been identified as a person of interest by the Virginia Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, but they have stressed that no charges have been brought.
Search enters its seventh moment
As the research for Konanki approaches its seventh day, missing person posters show her as 5-foot-3, with brown eyes and black hair. Representatives from Dominica have pledged to increase the number of interviews and to carry out their search for the missing student.
