Following US President Donald Trump’s airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels and his desire that Tehran give up its help for the organization, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned of a “decisive” reaction to any harm.
Trump made the announcement on Saturday that the US had engaged in “decisive and potent military action” to combat the Houthi danger to Red Sea shipping. Trump issued a stark warning to the Middle Eastern nation, pleading that its support for the rebels “must close soon.” According to a Houthi wellness official, the cuts left 31 people dead.
Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami rebuffed Trump’s warnings in a televised speech, saying,” Iran does not pay war, but if anyone threatens, it may offer acceptable, decisive, and compelling responses.” He claimed that the Houthis were” the Yemenis ‘ representative” and that they had made” strategic and operational choices” on their own.
This most recent increase comes in opposition to the ongoing hostility between the two countries. In a drone attack in Baghdad during Trump’s initial term, the US killed Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Guards ‘ overseas operations system. Iran responded by attacking bases in Iraq that house American and coalition forces with missiles. Washington reported that dozens of Americans had traumatic brain injury, despite the fact that no US workers had died.
The US heat attacks were described as “brutal” and “gross violations of the UN Charter,” according to Iran’s foreign ministry official Esmaeil Baqaei earlier on Sunday.
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s best minister, criticized Washington, saying it had” no power” over its foreign policy.
Araghchi wrote on X, urging the US to” stop the killing of Yemeni people,” saying that” the United States Government has no authority, or business, dictating Iran’s foreign policy.” He added that the 1979 Islamic Revolution was the final time for Washington’s influence on Tehran’s choices.
The Houthis, who have ruled significant elements of Yemen for more than a decade, are a part of the so-called” shaft of weight,” an ally of pro-Iran groups that fiercely oppose both Israel and the United States. The team has attacked Israel and Red Sea transport throughout the Gaza conflict in an effort to show unity with Palestinians.
The US military actions against the Houthis on Saturday marked the second since Trump’s re-election to the White House in January.
