A former Texas megachurch priest who is accused of child sex abuse turned himself in to Oklahoma officials on Monday.
Robert Preston Morris, 63, turned himself in to Osage County officers, where he was accused last week of five counts of sexual or indecent acts against a child by a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office, according to Phil Bacharach, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Attorney General.
According to court records, Morris was required to turn in his card and set a$ 50, 000 relationship.
On May 9, Bacharach predicted Morris ‘ initial appearance before a judge at 10 am ( local time ), which is when he will make an appearance.
Attorney Mack Martin said he anticipated entering a not-guilty appeal on Morris ‘ representative, but he declined to comment on the allegations.
After a person accused him of sexually abusing her in the 1980s, Morris left Gateway Church in the Dallas suburb of Southlake next year.
According to the attorney general’s office, the victim who was identified as CC in the prosecution claimed that the abuse began when she was 12 years old and that Morris was a traveling missionary who lived with her relatives in Hominy, Oklahoma. She claimed that the misuse persisted for four decades.
In a statement, Morris ‘ accuser, Cindy Clemishire, said she is thankful to the government for making the indictment possible and optimistic that” justice will eventually prevail.”
Clemishire, then 55, said,” After practically 43 years, the laws finally caught up with Robert Morris for the brutal crimes he committed against me as a child.” It is now necessary for the legal structure to hold him accountable.
Clemishire said she would prefer her name to be listed alongside the AP’s policy of never naming those who claim to have been sexually assaulted.
Morris was well-known for being socially engaged. In 2020, the cathedral hosted President Donald Trump for a conversation on race relations and the business on its Dallas school.
According to the attorney general’s office, Morris may spend up to 20 years in prison on each of the five fees.
