According to a battle commitment and a vision that some in the Republican Party have long held, President Donald Trump is expected to significantly reduce the Department of Education on Thursday via an executive purchase.

A 4 p.m. executive order filing and an “education event” are on Trump’s Thursday public schedule, which includes an “education occasion” in the White House East Room. According to USA Today, that event will provide information that Trump wants to oust the Education Department.

According to the outlet, the order has been in operation for days and may require Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to “take all important steps” to aid the agency’s closure while restoring education authority to the states.

Governors are among the state-level Democratic elected leaders who are expected to attend. Ron DeSantis (R-FL ), Bill Lee (R-TN), Greg Abbott (R-TX ), Brad Little (R-ID), Glenn Youngkin (R-VA ), Kim Reynolds (R-IA ), and Mike DeWine (R-OH) are the speakers. Parents for Liberty, Concerned Women for America, and officials from the Heritage Foundation are expected to attend along with other GPA-aligned learning advocacy organizations.

Conservatives have long criticized the organization as a mud account for teachers unions that doesn’t support students, citing issues with the country’s educational system and declining evaluation results since the Education Department was established 45 years ago.

But, Trump will need the support of Congress to completely prohibit the department, and his purchase is likely to face court challenges as the administration violently works to put its policies into practice formally.

The Trump administration has now reduced the agency’s workforce by halving its payroll from about 4,200 to 2,100 through layoffs and delayed resignations.

45 schools are being investigated by the Trump Education Department for “race-based” programs.

Despite those breaks, the Trump White House has also used the Education Department to further its objectives, pursuing federally funded diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, conducting an investigation of institutes over alleged civil rights violations, and urging schools to take action to combat racism on campus.

The White House has been in contact with The Washington Examiner to request post.
