A contract between the Trump presidency and immigrant children who enter the country alone has been terminated.
Around 26, 000 children received legal counsel and “know your right” clinics as part of the agreement, which was funded by the Acacia Center for Justice. Many frightened children are without important legal counsel as a result of the decision.
Acacia will no longer receive federal funding for attorneys who represent immigrant children in court, despite the company continuing to offer legal sessions.
The contract was scheduled to expire on March 29, but the US Department of Health and Human Services ( HHS) decided to put an end to almost all of Acacia’s legal work.
The program for unaccompanied children at Acacia, led by Ailin Buigues, is “extremely concerning because it’s leaving these children without really significant help.” They frequently find themselves extremely resilient.
One of Acacia’s lover organizations, Amica, led by Michael Lukens, said they were anticipating this action and are now getting ready for the worst. We’re trying to pull every valve, but we need to be prepared for the worst, which is having kids go to court without counsel across the nation. This is a total decline of the system, he claimed.
The contract was terminated” for the Government’s ease,” according to a text obtained by The Associated Press. Before resuming its legal aid program, the government had previously temporarily suspended it before resuming it, which would have resulted in the removal of some children who are now facing immigration courts alone.
