According to a court filing, Momodou Taal, a Cornell graduate scholar and two member of the UK and the Gambia, has been asked to turn himself in to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Donald Trump administration has recently taken harsh action against international students who accuse them of supporting Hamas.
At a socially convenient time, ICE invites Mr. Taal and his attorney to make an appearance in person at the HSI Office in Syracuse for his personal service as a NTA and his retreat to ICE prison. In accordance, if you want to suggest a date and time, we will immediately forwards it to ICE for account,” the email read.
Taal, however, previously faced activity from the college and was given two suspensions for his actions during pro-Palestine demonstrations.
Unexplained agents showed up outside Taal’s pupil apartment building and began asking various residents about him before the message asking him to retreat was sent, according to one of Taal’s lawyers, Eric Lee. Lee said in his court processing on Friday,” It is not yet clear what grounds for eradication the government claims are here” and that Taal has been living in the US and has been accepted there numerous times.
Trump is attempting to prosecute me to stop me from appearing in court, Taal wrote on X. His time in court is related to his lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s professional commands to” fight anti-semitism” on college campuses. According to Taal’s attorneys, “he lives in constant fear that he may be detained by immigration officials or officers as a result of his speech.” They believe this fear may have led to the most recent immigration plan to arrest him.
Taal posted” Colonized individuals have the right to avoid by any means important” and” Splendor to the weight” on October 7, 2023, right after the Hamas assault on Israel! drawing a lot of criticism.
