On Sunday, the Israeli government’s government approved the attorney general’s nomination of Gali Baharav-Miara, just weeks after the High Court of Justice, Israel’s highest court, temporarily halted the government’s decision to fire domestic security chief Ronen Bar over his failure to stop Hamas ‘ attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.
Baharav-Miara had publicly warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against trying to replace Bar, the Shin Bet producer, whose departure from services was the first in the organization’s story.
Demonstrators staged demonstrations outside the Knesset and the perfect president’s residence in Jerusalem before the ballot on Baharav-Miara, which reportedly sparked scuffles with police, according to AFP media company.
According to Netanyahu’s office, the government would keep the ballot on Baharav-Miara “due to her unacceptable behavior and due to significant and ongoing variations between the state and its constitutional adviser,” citing a cabinet meeting plan.
The Shin Bet chief’s dismissal and now the attorney general’s extraordinary techniques have caused more units in Israel since the Israeli army has resumed operations in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
Why was Shin Bet main dismissed by Netanyahu?
Netanyahu cited Bar’s “ongoing lack of trust,” which is expected to be revealed on April 8. The Israeli prime minister has frequently said that the decision to oversee the Shin Bet is up to the government.
However, detractors point to two main causes of Netanyahu’s opposition to Club.
The first was the condemnation of the Israeli government by the latter regarding the security disappointment that led to the Hamas assault on October 7, the most deadly day in the country’s story. The following was the analysis by Shin Bet into one of Netanyahu’s close friends who were suspected of receiving money from Qatar.
For accusations have been labeled as “fake reports,” according to Netanyahu’s office.
Following the judge’s preliminary ruling regarding Bar, Baharav-Miara claimed Netanyahu cannot nominate a novel internal security chief.
It is against the law to take any activity that would harm Ronen Bar, the mind of the Shin Bet, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision. Discussions for the location should not be held, and it is against the law to appoint a new head of Shin Bet, she said.
