In an opinion piece published by The New York Times, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scathingly criticizes the Trump administration’s handling of national security in reference to the Yemen battle talk spills involving the chief writer of the Atlantic.
Clinton specifically denounces top officials ‘ alleged use of unsecured business messaging platforms to reveal classified military plans, saying,” We’re all frightened — shocked! — that the administration’s focus is on enforcing federal law enforcement requirements or protecting classified information. But we already knew that. Even worse, top Trump administration authorities accidentally invited a journalist into the conversation and shared defense plans with the software. That is risky. And she remarked,” It’s just stupid.”
Clinton mentions broader plan failures, including the dramatic fire of hundreds of federal employees tasked with protecting the world’s nuclear arsenal, in addition to cybersecurity concerns. It’s also foolish to fire hundreds of national employees who are tasked with preserving our country’s nuclear arms. But is halting efforts to combat epidemics at the same time as an Ebola epidemic is spreading across Africa, she continued.
Clinton emphasizes the need for both military might and political commitment throughout the NYT piece and advocates for a proper approach to management. It’s not enough to be powerful in a hazardous and difficult world. She “arguments,” “you must also be intelligent. I argued for intelligent power while serving under the Obama administration, blending our military’s strong will with our country’s strong martial will for development assistance, economic will, and cultural influence. None of those resources is capable of doing the work by themselves. They work together to make America a power. Trump’s strategy is stupid energy.
The original Democratic presidential candidate even criticized the president’s “performance” emphasis on cultural and ideological conflicts rather than significant policy choices. According to her, Mr. Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ( of group chat fame ) appear to be more focused on performative battles over awakeness than preparation for actual battles with America’s adversaries. Does anyone really believe that eliminating Tuskegee Airmen monuments increases our safety? Because the plane’s title is the Enola Gay, the Trump Pentagon removed images of the one that dropped the atomic bomb that put an end to World War II. Dumb.”
Clinton also issued a caution throughout her writing that the administration runs the risk of alienating friends, enticing enemies, and sagging America’s standing internationally.
