During a recent discussion in the Oval Office, US President Donald Trumpexpressed enthusiasm about the idea of facing former President Barack Obama in a hypothetical election scenario.
” I’d like that”, Trump remarked when asked about the possibility.
” I’d appreciate that …. That would be a good one. I’d prefer that. And no, folks are asking me to work, and there’s a complete history about running for a second term. I don’t know, I always looked into it. They do say there’s a method you can do it, but I don’t understand about that”, Trump was quoted as saying by Fox News.
The 22nd amendment to the US Constitution, ratified in 1951, restricts president to serving no more than two terms. This article was introduced following the extraordinary four-term administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
FDR, the single US president to offer more than two words, remained in business through the Great Depression and World War II before passing away during his fourth term, at which point Vice President Harry Truman assumed the presidency.
Trump just hinted at the possibility of a third-term work during an interview with NBC News, emphasising that he is” no joking” about the concept and enjoys the job.
Nevertheless, he stated that he has no explored any constitutional strategies regarding the feasibility of a second term. ” I have nearly four years left of my name, and I’m focused on doing a great job”, he added.
Trump’s remarks have reignited debate on presidential term limitations, though lawfully, the chance remains closed due to legal restrictions. Despite guesswork, Trump maintained that his concern is his present responsibilities rather than looking to far back into another strategy.
