Rule “factually goes against the values of YAF,” class leaders claimÂ
After a disagreement with the traditional party regarding the inclusion of such terms, the University of Alabama lately granted the Young Americans for Freedom book a waiver to remove gender ideology speech from its corporate constitution. Therefore, the need was completely dropped by the school.
” YAF views the change as a win in itself. Chapter President Trenton Buffenbarger stated to The College Fix on Tuesday,” It’s an ending to a quick story of compelled conversation, and a win for the first act.”
” And it’s not just for YAF; it’s a win for every business on campus, which means that the University’s rules were overturned by our team alone,” he said.  ,
Buffenbarger claimed that because” the University has not really answered any of his questions, he would like it to be more open.”
No duel is too small, no subject is irrelevant, especially if it threatens your beliefs or your rights, according to Buffenbarger, adding,” If all it took was one message to break down this principle, it shows that the management doesn’t actually believe in it.”
The conflict began when the University of Alabama’s constitution writing rules mandated that all student organizations may have a equality clause stating that account must be open to all students regardless of whether they identify as “gender identity,” “gender expression,” or” physical identity.” According to Buffenbarger, the school mandated that this precise language be spelled out in every group’s constitution.
Buffenbarger informed the chapter’s members on February 21 via a group chat message shared with The Fix that they would not abide by the since removed rule. He claimed that requiring us to do so would violate our First Amendment rights because YAF does not adhere to those beliefs.
Additionally, he added that the phrase “fundamentally contradicts the beliefs of YAF and its members, since we do not believe these terms exist, and requiring us to put them in writing is against our First Amendment right.”
He said,” We’re going to support the left, and just because the left calls us insane, doesn’t make it true.”
When Buffenbarger submitted the chapter’s constitution without the required language, the group quickly lodged a formal complaint, warning that YAF could not hold events until the required language was included.
We are unable to approve your organization for renewal without the EXACT language being included in your constitution, according to the email from the school, which read,” All approved and active UA organizations must have the EXACT non-discrimination clause in their constitution.”

Buffenbarger claimed that the rule had put an end to YAF’s ability to host events.
The student group responded by writing a letter to the university that included information from the legal team for the national Young America’s Foundation, according to Buffenbarger.
He claimed that “it’s good to have backup if you need it” when referring to the YAF legal team in these disputes.
The university consented to grant the chapter a waiver in response to the letter. The university changed the entire nondiscrimination statement by removing all references to “gender” by the end of March, according to The Crimson White.
Buffenbarger also addressed The Fix with more general concerns prior to the institution dropping the requirement. Because it’s not just us who are concerned, he said,” we’re going to be pressing the issue even further.”
The Crimson White claims that not everyone on campus was in favor of the waiver that the student group had been given by UA.
The Queer Student Association’s president, Bryce Schottelkotte, said,” I think that while YAF might not say that they openly discriminate against LGBTQ+ students, and maybe they don’t, their insistence on removing those three explicit phrases —’gender identity, ”gender expression,”, and’sexuality” just sets the tone that LGBTQ+ students are not welcome in their organization.”
Buffenbarger responded by saying that his organization” will not discriminate against anyone” and that it only objected to the required nondiscrimination statement due to” the language and]YAF’s beliefs.”
Further, according to The Crimson White, six left-leaning organizations gathered on campus last week to protest the waiver, including UA Social Work Association for Cultural Awareness, UA Planned Parenthood Generation Action, UA Leftist Collective, and UA College Democrats, among others.  ,
No more silence no more fear, shout out loud and clear, YAF we call you out, we’ll fight for change, and there was no doubt. The groups also chanted” Up, up, with liberation” and” Down with discrimination, up, up, with liberation.”
Over the past two weeks, The College Fix reached out to Alex House, assistant director of communications, via email to ask for clarification on the rationale behind the university’s policy and why it ultimately decided to drop it, but she did not.
Teneshia Arnold, the division’s director of student life, the SOURCE Board at UA, and UA College Democrats President Branden Vick for comments, The Fix also contacted The Fix. No one responded.
