South Korean democratic court on Friday upheld President Yoon Suk Yeol’s prosecution over his decision to impose the questionable martial law last month. It said that the leader” took steps beyond the power”.
” We hereby pronounce the following decision, with the majority arrangement of all Justices. ( We ) dismiss respondent President Yoon Suk Yeol”, acting chief justice Moon Hyung-bae said.
The judge added that Yoon “did not only declare martial law, but went on to commit acts that violated the Constitution and the law, including mobilising military and police forces to hinder the National Assembly’s workout of its authority”.
The nation has faced prolonged social upheaval since December next time when President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed martial law and deployed soldiers to parliament in an effort to destroy human management.
If the court ruled in favor of his treatment, South Korea may be required to maintain a new national poll within two weeks. Nevertheless, if the senate was overturned, Yoon would quickly resume his political duties.
Yeol’s declaration of martial law on December 3 lasted only six hours before he was compelled to withdraw it after the opposition-led government soon voted to negate the purchase. Later that month, politicians impeached Yoon, stripping him of his power and referring his case to the Constitutional Court. In addition to prosecution, Yoon is also facing a distinct criminal trial on charges of alleged revolution.
