According to six current and former U.S. officers with knowledge of the situation, senior officials from the White House, Pentagon, and intelligence community are discussing drone attacks against Mexican drug cartels in the early stages, according to NBC News. Authorities have not ruled out unilateral action if needed, but the plan, which is being investigated in collaboration with Mexico’s government, apparently targets gang figures and their administrative networks.

One former U.S. established with expertise of the planning said,” They’re looking to build a specific deck.” Among the targets reportedly included syndicate staff, vehicles, warehouses, and supply chains connected to fentanyl production and trafficking.

No binding partnerships or decisions have been reached during the discussions, which are still preliminary. However, according to resources, the possibility of punitive subtle drone strikes that are carried out without Mexico’s approval is still a final location. Official U.S. leaders ‘ proposals to the Mexican government haven’t been confirmed.

The plan would be a new book in the long-standing U.S. Mexico cooperation against organized crime if put into action conjointly. However, according to officials, the Trump administration’s existing considerations may be unremarkable, especially given the scale of American involvement and the use of American unmanned aircraft to launch direct attacks against cartel operatives and infrastructure.

Administration leaders, including Ronald Johnson, President Donald Trump’s candidate for adviser to Mexico, have formally refrained from launching drone strikes. Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, has repeatedly said that” all accounts are on the table” and that possible U.S. behavior is imminent.

In recent days, the U.S. army and the CIA had increased surveillance flights over Mexican territory in an effort to establish a useful intelligence base for possible operations. According to common comments made by her, the planes were carried out with the permission of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
