
Donald Trump, president, claimed that his administration had approved a defense budget in the “vicinity” of$ 1 trillion.
Trump said at a conference with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Monday that” we are really cost-conscious, but we have to create the defense.”
Trump added that the president’s budget would be” the biggest one we’ve always done for the martial.”
Pete Hegseth, the defence secretary, followed up with a blog on the social media platform X: “COMING SOON: the second trillion dollars @DeptofDefense resources. Our war is being rebuilt by President Trump QUICKLY and FASTLY.
Due to the government’s use of a temporary cash estimate this year, the Trump administration has not yet released the finances request for fiscal year 2026. The anticipated release of the funds blueprint is later this spring.
Former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a recommendation to the U.S. government to increase defense spending by about$ 50 billion more than expected in fiscal year 2026, with increases that would push the Pentagon budget past$ 1 trillion in the years to come.
Hegseth has also been one of the most vocal supporters of Elon Musk’s efforts to reduce costs, and the Pentagon, which has a budget of$ 850 billion a year and employs some 2 million people, is the largest government.
In February, the director recommended reducing some unspecified Pentagon and military solutions spending groups by 8 % and moving those funds to higher priority applications like missile defence.
