EXCLUSIVE: Following attention of the happening under the Biden administration, the Trump presidency is praising its victory in slowing the flow of unaccompanied minors into the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed to have encountered a record-breaking number of unaccompanied alien children ( UACs ) crossing the border in a fact sheet exclusively shared with the Washington Examiner. Due to the risk of organizations abusing and utilizing UACs, the pattern was worrying.

In contrast to the 18, 716 UACs encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol in March 2021, the records show that only 631 UACs were encountered in March 2025. This is a 97 % decrease over the same time as the previous Joe Biden administration. Under Biden, the regular monthly UAC contacts was 11, 132, compared to less than 700 under Trump.
In March, there were fewer than 7 181 encounters of illegal immigrants overall, which is below Biden’s UAC experience average of 71. This is the lowest range ever recorded.
The large number of UACs that are still in U.S. prison is another issue that the DHS worked to resolve.
During the Biden administration, Border Patrol was reportedly encountered 473 to 145 UACs at the southwest border, far more than any other management. More censure was leveled at the managing of these children, as a statement from the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General revealed that over 300, 000 immigrant children had essentially vanished from standard radar after being cared for by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
A February 2024, audit by the HHS OIG found that partners should take care when turning over UACs. It discovered that 16 % of the children’s case files placed with sponsors lacked evidence that sponsors underwent safety checks, and 19 % of children were released to adults before the FBI’s fingerprint and state child abuse registry offices made the findings public.

After Xavier Becerra, the former secretary of health and human solutions, loosening screening standards for sponsors, the Trump administration relaxed the Young policy for sponsors on February 17. The new administration’s policies eliminated vetting gaps, mandated background checks and prints for all home adults, and limited access to legitimate identification documents presented in people.
Additionally, the DHS praised the efforts of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The organization reported that it reunited almost 5000 UACs with a caretaker or healthy equivalent in 70 days.
