A sightseeing journey over New York turned dreadful on Thursday after a plane crashed into the Hudson River, killing six persons — including a high-profile administrative of Siemens, one of Europe’s largest tech firms.
Agustín Escobar died in the fall alongside his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three kids, aged 4, 5, and 11, ABC News reported. The captain likewise lost his life.
Escobar had led Siemens Spain since 2022 and also served as the World CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, according to a business click release.
Siemens is a German-based global company that operates in areas including energy, industry, travel and medical technology. Its road and freedom department, where Escobar held a global leadership position, is involved in projects related to road systems, infrastructure, and transport technology in several countries.
According to his LinkedIn report, Escobar had over 25 years of experience running foreign businesses across the US, South America, Germany, and Spain. Based in Barcelona, he had landed in New York with his home just days before their trip with New York Helicopter Tours.

The Bell 206 plane took off from Wall Street Heliport immediately after 3 am and made it as far as the George Washington Bridge before things went wrong. Witnesses told the Post that a part of the blade broke off mid-air. The helicopter spiralled and crashed into the freezing lakes of the Hudson River near Pier 40 in Manhattan. Recovery groups found it upside-down, submerged in the valley.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
New York Mayor Eric Adams and US President Donald Trump offered their sympathies to the survivors after the accident.
