According to Bloomberg, the number of measles cases in the United States increased by 17 % over the past week, increasing the number of cases to 712. On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ) announced 105 new measles cases, bringing the total to 24 affected states.
97 % of those who became infected were either unvaccinated or had an uncertain vaccination history, according to the CDC.
Texas, the center of the existing influenza outbreak, has reported 36 fresh verified cases since Tuesday, bringing the total to 541. Nearby New Mexico, which has one measles-related dying case, added two more circumstances, totaling 58.
Amesh Adalja, a physician at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, said,” If we already have two fatalities in Texas, that tells you it’s already in the hundreds, not the lots.”
As of Thursday, Ohio had 20 proved measles cases reported from all over the state. In addition, cases in Oklahoma continued to rise on Tuesday, with eight confirmed and two possible infection.
Influenza is a very deadly airborne disease that easily spreads through the heat when an infected individual breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Although the disorder can be prevented by getting a vaccine, it has been ruled out since 2000 in the US.
The influenza vaccine, according to the World Health Organization, has a 97 % success rate after two doses in preventing disease and has reportedly saved around 60 million lives since 2000.
