Nearly two months after President Donald Trump fired his father, the Senate confirmed retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan” Razin” Caine as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Friday.
Following the abrupt dismissal of Gen. CQ Brown Jr., who had served as chairman and was the next Black standard to hold the position, Trump nominated Caine for the place in February. The departure was a result of the government’s wider efforts to remove military leaders who supported initiatives promoting diversity and equality among the ranks. Just before politicians took a two-week break, the Senate approved the assurance vote for Caine.
Caine, a highly decorated F-16 captain, has oversaw some of the Pentagon’s most secret functions as well as a number of special operations commands. He has also worked for the CIA. Caine does not, however, possess the necessary formalities for the place, such as being a commander of a warrior or a support main. The president may revoke these conditions if they are necessary to protect regional security.
The validation vote, which took place just before the Senate’s corner, highlighted the ideological break over Trump’s meetings. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S. D., set up the extended voting after Senate Democrats objected to speeding up the procedure.
Chuck Schumer, a member of the New York Senate Democratic Party, expressed his ongoing outcry over Gen. Brown’s dismissal. He stated,” I remain offended” about Brown’s departure, and he questioned Trump’s desires for choosing Caine. General Caine, according to Schumer, “has distinguished service to our country in the Air Force and Air National Guard, including through numerous fight operations.” I’m hoping that as our world’s top martial assistant, he will continue to speak truth to power, stand up for the demands of our servicemembers, and back Donald Trump when he’s wrong.
The voting was bipartisan, with 15 Democrats and Maine’s separate senator Angus King supporting Caine’s visit despite the opposition.
Caine pledged to give Trump honest and unbiased counsel at his confirmation hearing earlier this month. He added that he had never worn any political merchandise and that Caine had worn a” Make America Great Repeatedly” helmet when they first met.
Caine emphasized that it was his responsibility to abstain from such orders when asked how he would react if given the opportunity to carry out a possible illegal policy, such as mandating the military to use civilians for local law enforcement. He stated,” It is the responsibility and the work that I have to drive back.”
The connection between Trump and Caine dates back to the first year of office. In a statement from the year 2018, Trump has referred to Caine as” a true general, not a television public,” and they first met during a trip to Iraq.
As Milley took steps to stop the company from becoming politicized, Trump’s relationship with his former mutual leaders chair, Gen. Mark Milley, deteriorated. Milk somewhat reaffirmed to military personnel that their swear was to the Constitution and not the leader. Milley’s photograph was taken from the Pentagon after Trump’s commencement, and his security clearance and details were revoked.
