Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, criticized the claim made by his American counterpart regarding “genocide in Gaza.”
A Palestine supporter at a public meeting earlier this month criticized Democratic president Mark Carney by making fun of” a massacre occurring in Gaza,” Carney replied,” I’m informed, that’s why we have an arms embargo.”
In response to Carney, Netanyahu stated on Friday that” Canada has generally sided with society.” He then responded by posting on his official X page. ” Mr. Carney if also.”
Additionally, he continued,” He attacks the one and only Jewish state, not Israel, a republic that is fighting a just war against the invaders of Hamas.” He further rebuffed Carney’s request to “backtrack your careless declaration”!
Carney veers off in his direction.
Carney changed his mind a time after backing the “genocide” claim in Gaza, yet before Netanyahu’s response.
He stated during a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon that,” You were it, I guess — It was noisy, you get… if you’re up there, you hear fragments of what persons say,” as the Jerusalem Post cited him as saying. He continued,” I heard” Gaza,” and my point was that I was aware of the state of the situation there.”
A senior Israeli government official told the Toronto Sun in a statement that Carney’s remarks were “unfortunate” and” reject Canada’s position on this matter.”
The official refuted Carney’s claim that there is no embargo, only a disqualification of a limited quantity of permits, and that, of course, I don’t suppose Canada believes there is any kind of genocide.
The American government had announced in March 2024 that all future arms exports to Israel would be completely stopped. In keeping with Canada’s established diplomatic position, this decision was included in a larger resolution that called on the international community to do a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to Times of Israel, American authorities suspended about 30 permits for shipments of ammunition to Israel later in September.
