According to the US geological survey ( USGS), a 5. 5 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Sunday morning near Meiktila, a small city in the Mandalay region.
One of the strongest tremors since the strong 7.7-magnitude collapse that devastated the area on March 28 is the vibration.
The epicenter of the earthquake was found halfway between Naypyitaw, the capital of Myanmar, and Mandalay, the second-largest area hit hard by the previous disaster, and Naypyitaw, where government buildings were likewise severely damaged next month.
The earthquake reportedly occurred in Wundwin township, which is located about 97 kilometers ( 60 miles ) south of Mandalay, at a depth of 20 kilometers ( 12 miles ).
However, the depth was only 7.7 kilometres ( 4. 8 miles ) according to the USGS.
No accounts of significant injury or deaths from the most recent earthquake have been made. Wundwin people reported to the Associated Press that the vibration effected some buildings and caused some ceilings to be damaged. Naypyitaw residents claim there was no sense of the earthquake. Due to a heightened fear of reprisal from the military authorities, which tightly controls the flow of knowledge, all spoke privately.
According to a spokeswoman for Myanmar’s ruling military dictatorship, the March 28 earthquake had left at least 3, 649 persons dying and more than 5, 000 wounded as of Friday. Since then, lots of waves have followed.
The March collapse has heightened an now severe humanitarian crises in Myanmar, where over 3 million people have been displaced by the ongoing legal issue, according to the United Nations. Agriculture has been severely hampered by the crisis, and health services have been hampered by the extensive damage to health facilities.
Thingyan, Myanmar’s three-day New Year’s holiday, was officially observed on Sunday as a result of the earthquake. Due to the devastation of next month, people activities had already been called off.
