Three US National Security Agency ( NSA ) agents were charged by Chinese authorities with starting cyberattacks on critical infrastructure during the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin in February on Tuesday. The reported operatives are apparently from the NSA’s Office of Tailored Access Operations, a section known for gathering intelligence for cyberwarfare, according to a statement released on Weibo by police in the northern town.
The group, according to the speech, was to blame for attacks on “key information system” supporting the celebration, including systems for entry-exit management, entry-exit management, card payments, and regional networks between January 26 and February 14.
Over 270, 000 unusual attacks linked to the Winter Games were previously reported by China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, with the majority allegedly coming from the United States.
The University of California and Virginia Tech are also linked to what they called a” organized strategy” against the function, according to Chinese state media.
The Harbin Public Security Bureau is now rewarding data that could lead to the imprisonment of the namesake people, and it has urged people to assist with the research.
