In between work, I’ll always remember standing in line at a grocery store when I was in my 20s and realizing that the child in front of me was a high school friend. Around the age of 16, she became a teenage mother, and she was with four or five more children ten years later. I watched as she crammed the shopping belt buckle with so many expensive goods, generally children’s junk foods, and I questioned how she could manage it all. These I was juggling the few things I needed to make sandwiches that day while waiting in line and ensuring that I had enough money to pay for it.  ,

And that’s the issue. I used cash to make the payment. She used meal postcards to make the payment. ( And went outside and threw all of those kids and groceries into a brand-new Cadillac Escalade, but I’m not sure what I did. )  ,
Also, if you live in Indiana or Arkansas, your rulers only took steps to stop that from ever occurring again, at least while people are still in charge of the nation. They have requested that the Donald Trump administration permit them to record junk food and beverages like soft coffee and chocolate from the list of foods that people can purchase with food stamps.  ,
Arkansas ‘ governor made a public statement alongside United States Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins after making a statement in front of the audience. On X: X, Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted the second:
I became the first governor to request that the Trump administration remove tax-funded chocolate and soft beverages from food stamps now.

According to The New York Post, Arkansas claims that its “request is intended to improve the health of roughly 350, 000 people who take part in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.” It would become effective in July 2026 and stop people from purchasing” drink, including no- and low-calorie soda, fruit and vegetable coffee with less than 50 % natural juices, bad beverages, candy, including confections made with flour, like System Kat plates, and artificially sweetened chocolate,” according to the food stamps. Additionally, it would allow participants to use benefits to purchase hot rotisserie chicken, which is currently exempt from the program.  ,

I don’t typically agree with the government telling you what you can and can’t do, but I also don’t agree with taxpayers footing the bill for other people to live charmed lives. In my opinion, SNAP or the food stamp program should provide the absolute necessities of nutrition. You should have to earn it like the rest of us do if you want more than the necessities. ( And I realize that some people are unable to make it, but I’m not speaking to the people with exceptions at this time, so don’t come at me. )  ,
However, the lobbyists do not concur, and they vehemently objected.  ,
It’s disappointing that the leadership of the American Beverage Association directly disagreed with this Administration’s priorities for American health, well-being, and… https ://t.co/TuoETy7vxW.— April 15, 2025 — Secretary Brooke Rollins ( @SecRollins ).
Governor of Indiana is in the background. Mike Braun announced his remarks along with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Mehmet Oz, the head of the country’s healthcare system. He claimed that” More SNAP money is spent on candy and sugary beverages than fruits and vegetables.” That alters today.  ,
India is now the MAHA.
Governor Braun signs an Executive Order ABOUT SNAPS Benefits, which Bans Candy and Soft Drinks.
More SNAP money is spent on fruits and vegetables than on sugary beverages and candy. That ends TODAY” !https: //t. a6vEjKvGi photo at co. twitter.com/ZnJf7OkoQJ
