Bangladesh and Pakistan are scheduled to hold foreign office sessions ( FOC )- a speech at the level of the foreign secretary- on Thursday in Dhaka as a sign of the Yunus government’s desire to “engage significantly” with Islamabad. This is the first time the two countries have met bilaterally since 2010, indicating a possible thaw in diplomatic ties that have been frozen for some time.
At FOC, which will be held at the express guest house in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s foreign minister Md Jashim Uddin and his Muslim counterpart Amna Baloch did meet to discuss ways to improve diplomatic ties, according to officials. On Wednesday, Kaboulo arrived in Dhaka to speak with the participants.
Unsettled traditional issues are expected to be discussed with both sides on a variety of diplomatic issues. A Bangladeshi foreign ministry official stated that the two factors are expected to discuss the full range of diplomatic issues without having a fixed agenda.
Ties between the Sheikh Hasina government during its 15-year term were disturbed because of issues like the Bangladeshi trial for war crimes. Nevertheless, things have drastically changed since the interim government was established in August 2024. Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign secretary, is likewise scheduled to visit later this month.
