Around 3 am on Wednesday, a beautiful thing, originally thought to be a meteor, spanned the skies over the capital of Mexico, encompassing grasslands, volcanoes, and smaller towns.
Many viewers were awestruck by video of a ball of fire exploding over the Latin American nation and dissolving in a burst of light over Mexico City, which immediately became the inspiration for jokes that were posted on social media.
Over a GIF of dinosaurs walking through a meteor shower, one wrote,” No, the rock that exploded next evening isn’t an reason to talk to your ex.”
Shortly afterward, images of the fire that had been edited with democratic jokes and cartoon characters flooded the internet.
Scientists from across Mexico quickly realized that the item that was exploding across the sky was a bolide rather than a rock.
Bolides are “exceptionally beautiful meteors that are impressive enough to be seen over a really wide area,” as defined by NASA as “fireballs.”
It could also be referred to as a meteoroid, or a part of a meteor, according to Mario Rodriguez, a physician in space technology with the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Bolidus erupting from the ocean on Wednesday morning get hearth as they descend to Earth.
One of a group of researchers studying the films that shocked many Mexicans said,” They begin flashing with a stretching neck and produce light because of the extreme pressure on the thing.” He claimed that a bolide crumbles in the environment unlike comets, which affect Earth.
He claimed that this particular meteoroid posed no danger to the general public and measured 1.5 meters ( 5 feet ) in length.
