12 militants were killed in an airstrike by Somali and US troops in a region targeted by the Al-Shabaab Islamist group, according to the Ethiopian government’s statement on Thursday.
As Al-Shabaab fighters raided the important town that Somali military commanders used as a base, the bomb targeted Adan Yabaal, which is 140 kilometers ( 140 miles ) north of Mogadishu.
Concerns of a jihadist rise after insurgents were forced to retreat in recent years are being fueled by the growing problems by the Al-Qaeda-linked team, including one on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s fleet.
The data department said in a statement posted on X that the strikes by the Somaliarmed forces and the US Africa Command “aimed to mitigate the risk posed” by Al Shabaab.
The insurgents ‘ target was” the precise strike hit a site as a gathering and hideout,” the statement read. According to initial reports, “almost 12 employees, including top frontrunners, were eliminated.”
In December 2022, during the big offensive supported by African Union security forces, Ethiopian federal troops seized control of Adan Yabaal from Al-Shabaab.
