John Ullyot, the former head of the Pentagon’s Department of Defense ( DOD ), has announced that he will step down this week. However, a top official informed AP that Ullyot had been requested to retire by US defence minister Pete Hegseth’s office.
One of the first people to work in Hegseth’s communications office, Ullyot stated that he did not want to be” the number two to anyone in open matters.”
Before the commencement of US President Donald Trump, I told director Hegseth that I was against being in charge of public affairs. The US Marine Corps senior said in an exclusive interview to a site that he offered to help on an operating foundation for two months.
As that day approached, the minister and I discussed options for a new good match for me at DOD ( Department of Defense ). But I let him know now that I would be departing this week,” he continued.
President Trump appointed veteran of the Afghanistan War Sean Parnell as the brain director for the Pentagon in February.
Ullyot served as the National Security Council’s spokeswoman during the first Trump presidency. At the Department of Veterans Affairs, he also served as an assistant director for people and international politics.
During the Republican leader’s successful political campaign in 2016, he even served as a senior adviser to the president.
Ullyot had issued a contentious broad edict to the military services to remove online images that were viewed as promoting diversity, equity, or inclusion ( DEI ) at the Pentagon, which houses the Department of Defense.
When photos of national champions like Jackie Robinson and others were removed, that order caused a public uproar.
Ullyot’s exit coincides with, but is not related to, the Pentagon’s suspension of three senior officials in the wake of a leak investigation by the department, Dan Caldwell, Darin Selnik, and Colin Carroll.
