A fuel-filled vessel caught fireplace on the Congo River on Tuesday, killing at least 143 people, according to authorities, and dozens are still missing.
” On Wednesday, a primary group of 131 body was discovered, followed by another 12 on Thursday and Friday. A group led by a member of the parliament from the location, Josephine-Pacifique Lokumu, claimed that several of them are charred.
The drama occurred earlier this year, but details have been sluggishly revealed as a result of the area’s distance. Search and recovery efforts are being carried out along the river by authorities and local individuals.
The “provisional death toll]stands ] at 145: some burned, others drowned, according to Joseph Lokondo, a local civil society leader who assisted in the burials.
Although it’s still unknown what caused the fire, initial reports suggest the ship was carrying both explosive cargo and passengers. In the DRC, where waters remain a crucial mode of transportation, incidents of saturated and badly maintained river transportation are popular.
Representatives from the authorities have not yet made an official record of the missing.
